In pediatric and adult patients up to 70
kg body weight Strattera starting dosage is calculated according to the
formula: 0.5mg atomoxetine (Strattera) / 1kg body weight daily. During
a period of 3 days or more, dosing is gradually increased up to 1.2mg
to 1kg body weight. Dosages above 1.2mg/1kg has not been proved to be
of more benefit.
Your child weighs 44 kg, that is 97 lbs. 44 multiplied by 0.5 gives
22, i.e. 22mg of atomoxetine to start with. Strattera capsules are sold
in different strengths that include 18mg and 25mg. To start treatment,
you may choose either of them, or you may start with two 10mg Strattera
capsules. The dosage will be approximately right. Just never crash
capsules and do not try to measure the dosage right up to a single
milligram! If needed, the dosage then may be gradually increased up to
44 multiplied by 1.2, that is 52.8mg atomoxetine, or approximately two
25mg capsules of Strattera.
In pediatric and adult patients over 70 kg body weight Strattera
starting dosage amounts to 40mg
daily. During a period of 3 days or
more, a total daily dose is gradually increased up to 80mg, which is
taken either as a single dose in the morning, or divided into several
doses and taken during the day. If needed, after 2 to 4 additional
weeks, Stattera dosage may be increased up to 100mg daily in patients
who do not respond to the treatment with less doses.
The total daily dose in pediatric and
adult patients should not exceed 1.4mg/kg or 100mg. The less the
better. When the period of treatment is over, Strattera may be
discontinued at once without gradual decreasing the dosages. It
normally does not cause any problems.
